Types of business vehicles.

  • Various forms of business vehicles exist, including Limited Liability Companies (private and public), General Partnerships, Co-operatives and Limited Partnerships, Trusts and Collective Investment Schemes, which are set up as Société d’Investissement À Capital Variable (SICAV) or Protected Cell Companies (PCC)
  • A company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association (M&A;) or Deed of Partnership must be submitted with the Registry of Companies for registration of a company or partnership
  • Low registration costs and the registration process can take a minimum of 24 hours provided all documentation is in place – Authorised and issued share capital is divided into shares (minimum capital required €1,200 which at least must be 20% paid up)
  • A minimum of two shareholders is generally required although one may register single member companies
  • No restrictions on the nationality of the officers of a company (Director, Company Secretary or shareholders) – Company capital base may be in any currency
  • Shipping companies may apply for a 100% exemption from income tax on resultant profits
